What does it mean to become a registered Yoga Alliance teacher?
Teachers can register as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) if they have successfully completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training program that is registered with Yoga Alliance. All training hours must come from the same school and multiple trainings cannot be combined to meet the 200-hour requirement. Teaching hours are not required for this designation.
The Yoga Alliance RYT 200® training requirements include:
- Complete a 200-hour training program with a RYS 200
- Teaching hour requirements: None
- Teaching time requirements: None
Teachers who register with Yoga Alliance are listed on their online directory as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYTs®). The teacher registry is not a certification program but a listing of teachers who’s training and teaching experience meet Yoga Alliance’s minimum standards. Yoga teachers that graduated from Registered Yoga Schools (RYSs®) can receive varying levels of designation based on the amount of training and teaching experience they have. For example, The E-RYT designation (Experience Registered Yoga Teacher) distinguishes teachers with significant teaching experience.
